New pegasus crossing allows horses to cross road safely
Equine enthusiasts keen to ride on-road can now do so safely in Richmond Park in Surrey.

The Surrey Comet reports that a pegasus crossing has now been added to the main road between Robin Hood Gate and Wimbledon Common.

Riders can press the button for the green horse - literally - to come on without having to dismount as it is placed two metres above the ground.

Horse lovers told the newspaper they are celebrating the new development as the busy road made them fear for equine care and their own safety.

Julie Gatt said that the road was "terrifying".

"We just stand there and hope someone will be kind and stop. There have been a few near misses. This will be great," she added.

Riders who frequently hack through busy road areas are encouraged to take special road safety courses through the British Horse Society to ensure that both they and their mount are safe.
